Our client was branching out their heavy machinery moving company into the warehousing /storage and machinery sales sector and was experiencing rapid growth. Their existing MRP was not able to scale handling these new service offerings. An in depth build or buy analysis revealed the modifications to alter their existing solution would be too costly and would make the software even more rigid, and other off-the-shelf solutions that were considered would not offer the required scalability. It was clear that the most cost-effective, long-term solution that offered the most flexibility and scalability was a custom solution.
What We Did
Our Business Analysis process included on-site visits to observe the business processes and workflow as well as interviews with stakeholders in the back-office as well as those in the warehouse. We proposed a solution that was tailored to the moving, storage and sales process but was also future-proof with virtually unlimited scalability. The software tracks equipment across multiple warehouses as well as handles storage-fee and sales invoicing and all aspects of customer relationship management.
Almost fifteen years later, and multiple extensions of the original scope of work, the MRP we developed has stood the test of time and has grown with the company and shown to be infinitely scalable. The MRP is integrated with other business-critical software and processes including eBay and other digital marketplaces for their machinery sales offerings. We continue to enhance the software as needs and opportunities arise.
